Scrapbooking Global Sketch Challenge

Happy Spring!  (if you are in the Northern hemisphere anyway)  This month our blog hop will be inspired by a sketch.  I love using sketches to help create my layouts.  That means I have to think a little less, which is always a good thing!

Our sketch was chosen by a guest designer, Margaret.  I love the versatility of this sketch!  It was pretty easy to make my photos fit the sketch.

Here is the great sketch, isn't it a fun one?

This is the layout I made with the sketch.  Of course, I didn't get it finished until dark and the color doesn't film well without the natural light coming in the windows.  You can barely see the stamped borders of branches from the Perched In  A Tree stamp set, along with the little dots from another stamp in that set that I used to add a little texture to the layout.  The DSP is the beautiful Countryside Inn paper.  For fun I used 2 alphabet sets, the Mini Alphabet dies an the Alphabet A La Mode dies.  As always, I feel like it needs something more but I just haven't figured that out yet.  If you have an idea, please post it in the comments so I can try it!

March Scrapbooking Global Blog Hop

Welcome to the March edition of our scrapbooking blog hop.  Thank you so much for stopping by my blog.  I hope you will enjoy my layout.

Our blog hop theme this month was chosen by a guest designer, Lisa Stucker. She chose the theme, Celebrating Hobbies. 

When I saw the theme I knew exactly what my layout needed to be about!  My favorite hobby, the one I spend the most time doing and enjoy the most is hands down, scrapbooking!  I also enjoy gardening and sewing and lots of other things.  I'm working on a layout with the pumpkins I grew last year.  Maybe I'll get it finished now that I have the pictures printed.

I looked at the pictures I have of my stamping and scrapbooking adventures and knew I wanted green and blue to be in the paper.  I looked through all my current papers and couldn't find just the right thing.  I decided I would have to make my own DSP!  As I was working on the February Paper Pumpkin kit I decided to use some of the parts on my layout because the green was just right.  Then I looked at the stamps that came with the kit - my very favorite flower, the buttercup (also known as the daffodil) was one of the stamps!  How fun, I turned it into the background paper by stamping them all over white cardstock then coloring them with the Stampin' Blends.

Here is a picture of the "bones" of my layout.  Whenever I cover up most of the base of my layouts I cut the inside of it out and have an inch wide 12" frame.  I layered this onto a piece of discontinued Sahara Sand cardstock.  Since you won't see this piece it doesn't really matter what color it is.  I also used some of the card pieces from the Feb Paper Pumpkin kit, I even cut the cute gingham from some of the envelopes!  I don't know why the green in the little pieces on the lower right loo so washed out.  It's actually the same color green as the gingham. 

After I stamped and colored the buttercups (notice in my "bones" picture I didn't color the flowers under the pictures.  As much as I could use the practice in coloring with the blends I decided to save ink and time and just color the ones that could be seen.  After I got them colored I decided there needed to be a touch of blue so I got the speckled background stamp from the Perched in a Tree stamp set and stamped between the bunches of buttercups.  It was just the touch my homemade DSP needed!

After getting everything placed for the background of my layout I added pictures of scrapbook crops and stamping events.  I added simple journaling by printing on die labels cut with one of the Labels Aglow dies and popped them up on each picture with dimentionals. I tried different colors for the title with the fun Alphabet A la mode dies and the Mini Alphabet dies and decided on Daffodil Delight.  The layout looked like it needed something on the green gingham at the bottom.  I decided to sleep on it but hadn't come up with the perfect thing until I decided to work on the cards left in the Feb kit after I raided all those pieces.  Then I saw all the buttercup punch outs that were supposed to be on one set of the cards.  I think there were 5 for each card so I used 2 instead so I could have the rest to add the finishing touch to the layout.  Perfect!

Are you wondering how I managed to make cards with the 1 leftover card base I
had left for what was to be 3 cards.  It was supposed to be a smaller sized card and the envelopes with the green gingham matched the size.   I cut the card in half and used the insides of one of the envelopes for the background of the 3rd card.  I made them all to be a standard size card and they will all have to have a boring white envelope.  I'll have to get that buttercup stamp back out and stamp on the envelopes, won't I!

Men In Your Life January Blog Hop

It's 2024! I can't believe that January is more than half over already! We got our first snowfall of the winter Sunday and Monday, 3 inches of snow. We are expecting another inch of snow tomorrow. And it has been so COLD! I'm not a fan of winter, I get cold so easily. 

 Days like these have been perfect weather to scrapbook though!  Any excuse, right?

Tina Parsons picked out theme for this month, Men In Your Life. I've been needing to do these pages since 2019 so I appreciate the motivation.

I ordered this Trusty Toolbox DSP as a free Sale A Bration gift. It is perfect for my layout. I used a Very Vanilla 12x12 base and a little Lost Lagoon for the top of the page where I put my title and journaling. The ruler paper made a nice touch at the top and I cut some of the tools out and raised them on Stampin' Dimentionals to give them emphasis.

You really need a pack of this paper, don't you?
