May Scrapbooking Global Blog Hop

Hi, welcome to our May blog hop!

I had been hoarding the gorgeous vellum map paper from the Vellum Layering Designs DSP package but knew I had to break it out when I found out that our Scrapbooking Global designer, Sharon Dalton had chosen the theme for this month’s blog hop to use maps on our layout.

The pictures I took of the grandkids playing at Mud Island demanded bright colors so I started with a base of Pacific Point cardstock and added triangles of the bright new InColor prints in Tahitian Tide and Sweet Sorbet.  It comes in 6X6 size so it was perfect for the triangles after I cut ½” off the side and top of each one and cut them diagonally.  I also cut a full inch from the top and side of the  map vellum and then cut it corner to corner also.  This helps tone down the Pacific Point background and using a triangle on each page helped stretch one sheet of vellum to both pages.

Since I had to turn one of the sheets on it’s side if you look closely you can see that the right side page has the writing going up and down instead of side to side!

The fun flowers are stamped from the In Symmetry stamp set and fussy cut.  I don’t mind fussy cutting too much when it isn’t real detailed and won’t take a long time to cut out.  I mounted the stems which I stamped in the new Parakeet Party ink directly onto my layout but added the flowers with Stampin’ Dimentionals to give them some extra interest.  Did you notice that I curved the stem when I stamped the greenery for the Sweet Sorbet flowers?  I really like that you can bend and shape some of the more narrow stamps when using the clear photopolymer stamps.

The title along the bottom is also cut from the Parakeet Party cardstock.  I used the retired Large Letters Framelits because I wanted it to be a bold, bright title. I added a couple of bows to the letters and flower stems with the Tahitian Tide Metallic Woven Ribbon.  I love it’s sparkle!

One of the things I love about scrapbooking is remembering the day the pictures were taken. It was definitely fun for me to work on this layout and remember being at Mud Island and watching the grands having so much fun playing in the water.
